Mitchelle De Leon is a Senior Associate in CEA’s Environmental Policy & Advocacy group. He works with nonprofit and business leaders on turning bold changemaking ideas into effective strategies to address pressing environmental challenges — with an emphasis on integrating equity and justice into organizational and programmatic priorities.

Since joining CEA in 2016, Mitchelle has facilitated strategic planning efforts and conducted in-depth research for leading environmental organizations — such as Environmental Defense Fund, GridLab, and SkyTruth — on a wide range of topics, such as ecosystem resilience, sustainable agriculture, conservation technology, and climate change mitigation. He has also led stakeholder engagement initiatives to build support for the historic Klamath River dam removal project, working with stakeholders in rural California and Oregon.

Prior to joining CEA, Mitchelle served as a CivicSpark AmeriCorps Fellow with the Local Government Commission in Fresno, CA, where he worked to build local government capacity on sustainable groundwater management, the water-energy nexus, and transportation electrification. As a student, he served on the leadership of the Sierra Student Coalition, the Sierra Club’s youth chapter, where he trained youth leaders across the country on grassroots organizing to advance climate justice and developed strategies for a nationwide youth-led clean energy campaign. Mitchelle holds a B.S. in Economics with an emphasis in Finance from California State University, Bakersfield. He is currently serving as Vice Chair of the City of Berkeley’s Community Environmental Advisory Commission.
