SERN (2009)

I am a Communications Specialist at Pandion Systems in Gainesville, FL. Previously, I was the Statewide Builder and Developer Coordinator for Florida Yards & Neighborhoods, a University of Florida Extension program. I have an MS degree in interdisciplinary ecology with a concentration in environmental engineering sciences and a focus on wetlands from the University of Florida. Before moving to Florida in 2003, I was a co-founder and Executive Director of Shaw EcoVillage, a non-profit in Washington, DC, which trained at-risk students about sustainability through the lens of their neighborhood. I developed an inquiry-based approach for students to analyze real-life environmental problems and then create positive and practical solutions for those problems. Students presented their findings and proposals to a panel of professionals and community members. The organization also had an entrepreneurial arm called Chain Reaction, a bicycle shop which trained youth to repair and refurbish bicycles for resale.
