Felipe's background is in Oceanography with an emphasis in fish ecology, fisheries assessment and management. He obtained a Master's Degree in Freshwater Biology and Inland Fishing in the Brazilian Amazon in 2015. His current PhD thesis at Virginia Tech addresses the impacts of tropical fisheries on fish communities living in coral reefs in northeastern Brazil. Felipe has also worked for Rare.Inc as a Fisheries Specialist in the Fish Forever Program. Broader interests in science emcompasses pollution, climate change, wildlife conservation, and the socio-economics aspects of fisheries.
