• Strengthening the Environmental Justice and Public Health Community in South Carolina public forum. October 11, 2008 in Charleston, SC. Register now!
• Here Today, Gone Tomorrow: The Facts About Your Water and How to Conserve It. This public issue forum will discuss water issues in the City of Atlanta and its affects on the greater Southeast. November 1, 2008 in Atlanta, GA. Check back for more details!
• The Politics of Food. This year's national conference, to be held in Raleigh, NC, from September 22-24 will focus on how America grows, buys,
distributes and eats its food. Join us for a challenging exploration of how and why our food system
works as it does, whether it is secure, just, and sustainable, and how it might be reshaped for the future.

• Optional Training for Senior Fellows. On Saturday, May 3rd, ELP offered a training for Senior Fellows in the Southeast on
Strength-based Leadership with trainer, Jack Ricchuito. The training was held at the Atlanta Outdoor Activity
Center. May 2008, Atlanta, GA.
• Implementing the Olmstead Vision: Senior Fellows L'Tryce Slade and Esther Obonyo held an Implentation Workshop on
Saturday, April 19th, in Birmingham, AL. The aim was to define strategies for revitalizing housing near
Ensley's Village Creek Park through a workshop that engaged all stakeholders in the

• Green City, Green Camps: A Celebration of Environmental Leadership.
The City of Gainesville and the University of Florida have made sustainability part of everyday
life. Mayor Hanrahan, and Senior Fellows Brian Mayer, Esther Obonyo and Mark van Soestbergen talked
about some of the ways they are making it happen. March 2008, Gainesville, FL.
• Equity, Empowerment and Environment: Bridging Conversations, Showcasing Solutions.
A Sustainable Tennessee Regional Opportunity Forum. A diverse mix of community-minded citizens,
companies, institutions and organizations from throughout East Tennessee who are working to improve the
quality of life in this region came together for a discussion that focused on solutions and
actionable items. January 2008, Knoxville, TN.
• The Beltline Development Project: Perspectives from the Grassroots.
A lively conversation with Environmental Leadership Program Senior Fellows Na'Taki Osborne,
Bruce Morton and Brendon Barclay discussed: environmental education, green spaces from
a youth perspective, health and equity issues, and trail issues as they relate to the Beltline
