The focus of the third retreat is coalition building and strength based leadership. Fellows will the fundamentals of coalition building including why organizations chose to become a part of a coalition, decide against becoming part of a coalition, power dynamics in coalitions and keeping a coalition together. Additionally, Fellows learn about a new brand of leadership which allows individuals to lead from a position of strength and possibility rather than from deficiencies and problems. Finally, Fellows will graduate from the fellowship program into ELP’s Senior Fellowship Community.
- Learn how to involve a diverse set of players in coalition work and how to address common challenges and pitfalls in coalition-building.
- Gain necessary skills and confidence to promote diversity, equity and justice in the coalitions they currently are involved in.
- Able to discuss ways to apply lessons to specific projects that they are working on.
- Identify collaborative activities that they would like to work on in the region and as part of the national ELP community.
- Learn to approach leadership from a position of strength and opportunity.
- Develop an understanding that positive performance and attitudes come from engagement of passion and strength that make weaknesses irrelevant
- Gain opportunity to acknowledge their growth and appreciation for the fellowship of their classmates.
- Given an opportunity to understand and anticipate future engagement in the ELP community. This eases their transition and helps solidify their identity as an ELP Senior Fellow.
