Goals of retreat:

• The media working for you – how to be an effective spokesperson
• Communication planning
• Fellow Professional Presentations

The focus of the second retreat is on communications. Fellows will learn how the media works, how to get the media work for them and how to be an effective spokesperson. Additionally Fellows will learn how to develop a strong communications plan and the importance of messaging. Fellows have the opportunity to practice these skills through a professional presentation to their peers and receive valuable constructive feedback.

Outcomes:

• Fellows leave the training with a better understanding of the role of the media, how to interest the media in their story, and how to develop and stay on message during media interviews
• Develop greater understanding and appreciation of strategic communications planning
• Gain invaluable feedback, suggestions and resources from peers and trainer.
• Based on Fellow goals, ELP staff is able to make connections to other members within the ELP community who have resources or expertise that may contribute to their endeavor.
• Gain a deeper understanding of their peers professional work and interests.
• Opportunities for collaboration are discovered and encouraged by staff.
