Retreat 2: Systems Thinking

Goals of retreat:

  • Explore the set of skills needed to see things from a systems thinking approach
  • Learn how to use systems thinking perspective to improve strategizing and analysis of problems and identify valuable leverage points which can affect real change


The focus of the second retreat is on systems thinking. Fellows will learn what systems thinking is and how to effectively identify themselves and others within the system that they are hoping to affect change within.  

 Outcomes:

  • Fellows leave the training with an understanding of systems thinking;
  • Individuals are able to identify their role as well as others within the system they are trying to change and what the best leverage point of influence is for them;
  • Learned tools and strategies to help others understand how systems thinking can help their goals be achieved;
  • A systems thinking map of individual circumstances which can be incorporated into short and long term goals;
  • A more holistic approach to analyzing problems and finding the most direct and beneficial solutions that reduce the development of unintended consequences
