ELP FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS
ELP's National Fellowship program will not select new fellows for the national
fellowship program in 2006.
The Environmental Leadership Program's national programming will pursue a new
direction in 2006-07. ELP has decided to launch "The Year of the Network" (TYTN)
and to kick it off officially at ELP's September 2006 Senior Fellows and Senior
Associates gathering in New Orleans.
As part of the Year of the Network, we will hold public events in locations around
the country featuring members of the ELP community in a public dialogue about key
leadership issues. If you are interested in learning about events that are happening
in your area, please sign up here http://www.elpnet.org/signup.php.
The Year of the Network is intended to unleash the collective capacity of ELP's
Senior Fellows and Senior Associates, positioning them to take full advantage of
ELP's network and training. At the close of 2006, ELP will have 160 Senior Fellows
and nearly 80 Senior Regional Associates. After seven years of recruiting and
training this diverse cohort, ELP seeks to mobilize the ELP network to achieve a
greater impact on the environmental field.
ELP will focus its programming and resources in 2006-2007 on our Senior Fellows
and Senior Associates, whom we have invested in over the years. We will continue
our second-year programming for our 2006 class of national fellows. During the coming
year, we also will continue to strengthen and expand our regional networks through
enhanced offerings in the
Delaware Valley and Greater Boston Area,
and by laying the groundwork for our third and fourth regional networks.
ELP strongly believes that our greatest potential for change lies in the collective
capacity of our network of inspired environmental leaders, and, additionally, that
public leadership relies on individuals daring to take carefully considered
professional risks. To enable the community to make the most of such opportunities,
we plan the following elements of the Year of the Network:
- A series of national retreats and conferences, beginning with a gathering
in New Orleans in September 2006 and designed to bring members of the community
together around different topics to learn and explore ways to collaborate and
contribute their expertise;
- An expanded ELP communications effort that will connect ELP Senior
Fellows and Senior Associates to a variety of public speaking, writing,
and expert reference opportunities;
- Implementation of enhanced on-line networking and communications tools
to help connect and mobilize the ELP community;
- Optional skill training to further develop the public leadership
skills of ELP Senior Fellows and Senior Associates.
We see the Year of the Network as a tremendous opportunity to help members
of the ELP community bring to life new ideas and collaborations that will move
us toward a more just and sustainable future. We will be working with the
entire ELP community over the next year to plan and implement programs that
provide inspiration, new skills, and the essential contacts to put visionary
ideas into practice.
